Attracting and Keeping Our Cybersecurity Talent

If you’re like me, finding good podcast content is hard. I really struggle as I either like podcasts that bend my brain a bit or tells a good story where I can be entertained. Too often I come across podcasts that drone on forever about meaningless topics or talk about technology crap that bores me to tears.

So, I polled the team, and we took a vote.
Here are the top five security podcasts you should be listening to today.

  1. Pwned: The Information Security Podcast.

I know, shameless. Pwned is a nationally ranked technology podcast. We’re also ranked #2 in Peru, and Peruvians seem like a country that has their head screwed on tight so that counts for something. Pwned content changes a bit over the week usually releasing two episodes per week.  Pwned covers forward thinking content, real life stories from the NuHarbor Security team, industry leading interviews, and the acclaimed Breach of the Week.

  1. Darknet Diaries

If you’re looking for security stories, this podcast should be top of your list. Jack Rhysider does a great job with this professional sounding, NPR-style podcast. This podcast over 3,000 ratings on iTunes with a perfect 5.0 rating. I personally think most Podcasts are garbage, but Jack got me listening. Jack, call me.

  1. Risky Business

Published weekly, the Risky Business podcast features news and in-depth commentary from security industry luminaries. Hosted by award-winning journalist Patrick Gray, Risky Business has become a must-listen digest for information security professionals. They constantly update their content and deal with real-time topics.  Plus, Patrick has a dreamy accent so nothing wrong with that.

  1. Cyberwire

This team is legit. Anyone that knows me knows I don’t offer compliments often, but this team has their stuff together.  For the curious listener you have a variety of cybersecurity topics produced in a professional manner. With this podcast you’ll get some nice coverage of various cybersecurity content.

  1. Business of Security

Solid pod! It’s a little different in the approach, but once you listen to a few episodes, you’ll agree it’s refreshing. This podcast focuses on many non-technical aspects of cyber risk, cybersecurity and information security, the intersection of technology and managing, to business expectations. Guests include CIO’s, CEO’s and CISO’s discussing the many facets of the information security industry, what matters, what needs to change and how to deal with modern-day challenges in the dynamic industry of cybersecurity.

BONUS! How I Built This

To spread the love a bit beyond cybersecurity, I also highly recommend How I Built This with Guy Raz. Podcasts are a great way to get inspiration and hearing entrepreneurs, innovative thinkers, and business leaders discuss how they built empires out of nothing is a great way to get fired up.

Here’s the deal, if you are like me, you do not have a lot of time to be listening to every podcast in the world. Cybersecurity podcasts are variable at best and when you find a good one you hope that they hold on to the flow as long as they can. This list is comprised of the top podcasts that I personally recommend you add to your listening list.  Also worth noting that this list of podcasts covers a variety of topics and content matter, so if you’re looking to ramp up in the cybersecurity industry, this combination of podcasts might be exactly what you need to get a leg up. Make sure you listen to Pwned, if you are curious I actually didn’t take Zack’s Marriott Bonvoy points.
